Under the directing of Ra. Mu. Chidambaram, the film's production got underway in 2014 under the name Oattathoodhuvan. Chidambaram disclosed that the film will be based on Indian mail runners from the 1850s.[/3] After two years of acting instruction at the New York Film Academy, Ram Arun Castro, a BITS Pilani engineering graduate, made his acting debut in the movie. Castro became the film's principal producer after the first producer decided not to continue with the project before the production even got underway. He claimed that he and Ram Arun Castro shared equal ownership of the production and that he was not given the credit he deserved. Chidambaram's attorney pointed out that Castro had inserted a few scenes, retitled the movie Harkara without getting authorization, and then claimed sole credit for being the director and writer.* [8]
